Better general reliability

Pipers will be familiar with a variety of issues concerning the non-musical parts of the pipes. Some occur, embarrassingly, in performance situations. These include

  • chanter or drone stock blowing out of bag while playing
  • bag leaking somewhere
  • chanter cap coming loose
  • bellows leaking some of the air back out to the room rather than driving the chanter

I designed the instrument so that none of these reliability problems can occur. One example is that the pipes do not use any push-fit connections (using hemp twine or cork). Instead the instruments use zero-maintenance screw fit connectors throughout. Another is the use of a bag with a zip that allows access to the inside to check the fittings are secure.
