Uilleann Pipes

The uilleann pipes can play in tune over two octaves with a sweet emotive tone. They are a favourite of film producers and music composers.

But the instrument is described as frustrating, high maintenance and fiendishly temperamental. Amateur musicians are often confounded by not being able to get their treasured instrument working in a way that comes close to the sound heard in commercial recordings.

By using a combination of 3D printing, musical acoustics and an agile problem solving approach, I am moving forward the design of the uilleann pipes to open up new musical possibilities and ensuring that these problems become things of the past.
